The Jack Baskin School of Engineering is the school of engineering at the University of California, Santa Cruz. The school trains students in seven departments: Applied Mathematics & Statistics, Biomolecular Engineering, Computational Media, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Technology Management. The school of engineering was formed in 1997 and endowed through a multimillion-dollar gift from retired local engineer and developer Jack Baskin.

Student Demographics

Undergraduates

As of Fall 2016, the undergraduate students of Baskin School of Engineering are made up of 1.6% of African American/Black students, 33.4% of Asian students, 19.7% of Hispanic/Latino Students, .2% of Pacific Islander/Native Hawaiian students, 28.5% of white students, and 8.3% of students who identify as two or more ethnic identities. In addition, out of the 4,073 total undergraduate students affiliated with the Baskin School of Engineering, 3,164 (78%) are men and 865 (21%) are disproportionately women.

Graduates

As of Fall 2016, the graduate students of Baskin School of Engineering are made up of .2% African American/Black students, 6.4% of Asian students, 4.4% of Hispanic or Latino students, 26.6% of White students, and 3.7% of students who identify as two or more ethnic identities. In addition, our of the 590 total undergraduate students affiliated with the Baskin School of Engineering, 438 (74%) are men and 143 (24%) are disproportionately women.

Silicon Valley

Baskin Engineering conducts classes, career training, and professional development programs at the Silicon Valley Center, located in the NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field in Mountain View, California. Tracks include product management, technology and commerce, data mining, reliability engineering, advanced device engineering, and network engineering.

Facilities

The 212-seat Baskin Engineering Auditorium and Engineering 2 building, a 150,000-square-foot (14,000 m2) space, were completed for occupancy in the summer of 2004. The Physical Sciences Building provided additional space for biomolecular engineering programs and groundbreaking for a new Biomedical Sciences Building in 2010.
